Make a Difference to the Quality of Life of Many

rec & Leisure campaign 2014

Our Recreation and Leisure Services offer a wide range of activities adapted to the uniqueness of the participants and aimed at promoting their personal growth. Many participants and their families recognize that new life experiences and skill development are essential to getting integrated in society. Again in 2014, many great stories emerged about people experiencing an improved quality of life and a sense of belonging in our community.  Your generous donations made a difference in creating these great life stories and over the months benefited more than 400 people. This year, we can report the following highlights:

  • Adult Night Out had over 20 people registered every week and a waitlist.
  • Friday Flix continued to increase in popularity with an average of 40 people coming to see a movie every Friday night.
  • Yoga and Aerobics had over 15 people registering every week, increasing the awareness about the importance of fitness in a holistic lifestyle.
  • The Musical Theatre and Rec Rockers Camps provided an outlet for many people to express their creativity in performing arts.
  • Many participants were able to visit Science World, the Vancouver Aquarium and the Great Vancouver Zoo and go on educational tours to dairy farms, fish hatcheries and powerhouses.

We are proud of the fact that our staff are doing great work as we see the demand for our services increasing. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources required to meet that demand and we appeal to your generosity to help us expand our services to more people in need.

Our Recreation and Leisure Services are not funded by the government and rely solely on modest subscription fees, proceeds from fundraising events and your generous donations. With your continued support, these programs have the potential of providing additional real life experiences to participants and reaching out to many others in our community.

Of course, you can designate your donations to other well-worth services such as, Acquired Brain Injury, Client Wish Fund, Customized Employment, Employment Training and Support, Personal Development, Snoezelen Room or the General Fund where funds go to the areas of most need.

You can also contribute to our various endowment funds which support the long-term viability of the Society and its programs:

Butterley Family Endowment Fund, supporting operating costs for the most in-need unfunded program

  • Dragonfly Endowment Fund, supporting the long term viability of the Recreation and Leisure Program
  • Tennant/Baranszky-Job Endowment Fund, supporting the long term viability of Fine Arts activities within the Recreation and Leisure Program
  • Wheeler/Soucy Endowment Fund supporting the long term viability of the Recreation and Leisure Program and other unfunded programs
